Learn about the different types of trees at Kiwanis Park in Tempe, AZ. To become more aware of the enviroment around you.

Directions: 

Located on All-America Way, north of Guadalupe Road between Rural and Kyrene RoadsOr, take Mill Avenue, go south past Baseline Road and turn right on All-America Way.

Quest Clues: 

To start:From the parking lot, walk down to the lakeThis isn't going to be a piece of cakeGo to the walk-out dock to the right of the pedal boat dock This is the first stop, so start the clock. For reflection:In this lake holds lots of fish.From yuccas to bass and even sunfish. Challenge question Why are sunfish called sunfish? 1ststep:From the walk-out dock take turn yourself around Where you will see a Yucca tree moundIt looks like a bunch of palm trees stuck togetherAnd can only live in hot weather. For reflection:Most yucca trees have edible parts on themThis includes the fruits, seeds, and the flower stem.Next time you want to start a fire place fireThis type of wood is what most people desire.Challenge question: What tree the yucca tree resemble? 2ndstepTurn to the left again to continue the journeyThis stop I know your yearningTake 10 paces to see where it leadsHere you will see the pine tree on the hill with a couple of weeds For relflection:Pine trees reproduce from a seed in a cone that grows off the tree.If you look up high these pine cones you can see.They are way up high.So reach for the sky.Challenge question: What else do you think the seed needs to grow into a tree?HINT: How do we grow and live?3rd stepNow turn to the left and take 10 stridesNow look up the hill and here you will see an elm that hidesTo get a closer look walk up the hill if you dareBe careful not to fall and take each step with care For reflection:The elm tree has about 30 to 40 different kindsEach one equipped with different mindsElm trees can live up to be 300 years old and grow to be 100 feet This, by far, has you and I beat. Challenge question: The elm tree loses it's leaves during the winter months, why do you think that is? 4thstepThis step is quite a strideSo buckle down and enjoy the rideTake 40 steps to the left and look toward the lakeAfter that long walk take a seat and relax for goodness sake.This tree is called jacaranda For reflection:This tree grows pretty flowers that are purple and sticky So don't touch it or your hands will get icky.The roots grow above groundSo just look down to see a root mound Challenge question: What is the sticky stuff on the flowers called? 5th/last stopThis nature quest is almost over as sad as it may be I hope you had fun and with all the things to see.Take 30 steps to your right and you will see the last place which is the dockHere you can take a breather and stop the clock. Reflection: I hope you had a wonderful time today. Now look at the lake, its beautiful wouldn't you say? The ducks and fish all around the park. Nature has definitely made its mark.
